Water, pump, basin, furniture and rubbish.
Created for ‘Nuit
Blanche’ in Toronto, Liberty Village (2008, curated by Dave Dyment)
The new urban development constructed around the old central prison
of Toronto (demolished in 1920) is now called Liberty Village. In
the ruins of the old prison chapel, the water pours down as a continuous
flow, like a torrent gushing out of the third story window. The content
of the building spills out on pieces of furniture and electrical goods
lying on the ground as debris. The overflow opens up the old detention
center unable to retain this excess.
